Press Release Contract Spurwerk

Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Essen and Duisburg go for Ticket Vending Machines from ICA

The bidding consortium Einkaufs- und Wirtschaftsgesellschaft für Verkehrsunternehmen (beka) mbH / ICA Traffic GmbH are awarded the contract of the overall 299 stationary ticket vending machines of an Europe-wide tender. The tender was put out by the four transportation companies Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG (DSW21), Rheinische Bahngesellschaft AG (Rheinbahn), Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) und Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft AG (DVG).

DSW21, Rheinbahn, EVAG and DVG become merged with six additional transportation companies from North Rhine-Westphalia under the official name "spurwerk.nrw." - Kooperation der Stadtbahnunternehmen -. Their target is to obtain economic advantages and developed for the new acquisition a common product concept catalogue with high technical requirements for these vending machines and the booked background system. The technical system solution of the system provider from Dortmund was decisive for the choice in favor of ICA, who convinced spurwerk.nrw. in comprehensive tests.

The ticket vending machines type DUALIS 2000 IS are counted among the latest generation of ticket vending machines of ICA. They are designed according to the most recent accessible requirements and are consist of the highest quality to be vandalism resistant and easy to service. Rheinbahn, EVAG and DVG are one of the first transportation companies in Germany who have equipped partially their ticket vending machines with a banknote recycler. This means that these vending machines do not only take these banknotes as currency they also use it as change. Based on this fact small ticket amounts could now be paid with large notes.

All ticket vending machines are equipped with a card reader for proximity cards (e.g. VDV KA). To be more customer focused additional features of the vending machines are for instance journey planners and barcode readers for 1D and 2D barcodes. With these specific barcode readers, mobile-tickets, ticket2print or EBE-vouchers could be used.

The four main spurwerk.nrw. companies decided to settle on the innovative product line “ECOline” with the motive to maintain the environmental protection. All ticket machines are equipped with this low-loss ECOline component and an innovative power management. Due to these pioneering constructions all processes could be controlled and monitored. This helps to reduce the power consumption significantly and the energy expenditures decrease by 50% compared to similar machines without any detriment in performance and service. The four transportation companies do not only save energy costs for the whole lifetime of their ticket vending machine, they simultaneously shrink the ecologically harmful CO2 emission considerably – depending on the way of power generation conservation of 1.9 t CO2 per machine/year are feasible. All 299 ticket vending machines will be delivered in 2012.
